Online retailer Amazon.com has opened a retail site for its customers in Canada. The website will sell both English and French language books, as well as DVD’s, CD’s, videos and other consumer goods. Amazon believes that the new Canadian site will make it easier and cheaper for customers in that country to purchase products from Amazon.
Canada Post’s logistics division has won the contract to handle shipping and returns for the new venture. Using Canada Post for distribution means that Amazon will avoid laws that previously made the cost of shipping goods to Canadian customers prohibitive.
The opening of the Canadian retail site further expands Amazon’s growing online retail empire. Amazon already has retail sites in the US and the UK, Germany, Japan and France.
