AOL is about to announce plans to sell its Internet software to corporate customers. The company’s Strategic Business Solutions unit will begin to package Internet server software products developed by its Netscape business unit.
AOL plans to offer a variety of products including a version of Instant Messenger specially adapted for corporate use. This version of Instant Messenger will include added security to enhance private, internal corporate communications. Other offerings will include a combined package of AOL’s calendar, address book and web site hosting services. The company also plans to offer AOL Time Warner content to businesses to include on their own company websites.
AOL hopes to increase the pressure on Microsoft and other well-established providers of Internet services for the enterprise market.
