PC manufacturer Apple has announced it is to release its eMac system for the retail market. The system was previously only available for customers in the educational market. Apple cited strong consumer demand as one of the main factors behind its decision to launch the eMac onto the consumer market. The eMac is expected to cost between $999 and $1,199.
The eMac features a 17-inch cathode ray tube monitor and a 700-megahertz G4 processor.
Apple has also unveiled the first public preview of the new version of its streaming media software, QuickTime 6. The software features MPEG-4 video compression technology.
