AT&T Wireless has launched a service that aims to locate the geographical position of its customers’ friends and family members. The service, called ‘Find Friends’, will allow users to locate consenting friends through their mobile handsets.
The service will provide users will the geographical position of the mobile phone belonging to the person they wish to find. The user can then decide to contact that person by calling, texting or arranging a meeting. The service can list nearby meeting places, such as bars and coffee shops, to meet in.
‘Find Friends’ requires users to create a list of other AT&T Wireless mMode customers that they may wish to locate. The service needs the permission of the friend before they can be added to the list and customers can remove themselves from lists at anytime. The service is available to mMode service customers, and users of the service incur no additional charges.
