US startup Bytemobile, a wireless data and network optimization company, has won a major customer. The company will implement a network optimization platform to boost performance on Vodafone’s GPRS network in the UK.
The company has also secured second-round funding of $29 million, after winning initial funding of $15 million in October 2000. It expects to make further announcements soon about agreements with other European and US carriers.
Bytemobile provides data optimization platforms, a product that aims to improve the reliability and performance of wireless data networks. It makes the network more robust before compressing data packets to optimize bandwidth usage.
The company is targeting top-tier European GPRS operators initially. This is due to the maturity and high penetration rates of the market. However, Bytemobile already has competition, such as Bluekite and Speedwise.
