mmO2 unit BT Cellnet’s email to SMS service, mmail, was unavailable on Friday after the domain disappeared from the Internet. The website mmail.co.uk has been detagged; the reason why is unclear, but BT Cellnet may have failed to renew the domain.
Mmail enables users to receive an SMS message when another person emails their email@example.com address, where xxxxxx is their phone number. The service also allows emails to be sent using SMS messages from a mobile phone.
For as long as the domain remains down, no mmail messages can be delivered to users. BT Cellnet has not commented on when the service will resume.
