International Wireless and Bango.net have partnered to develop new technology that will enable users to point camera-enabled handsets at a barcode to receive content on their mobile handset. The development shows how the arrival of camera-enabled handsets can provide new opportunities for accessing information, graphics and text.
Content providers need to register a barcode with Bango.net and link it to the content that is to be delivered from mobile enabled websites and data servers. When a mobile user scans the code, International Wireless’ CodePoint software recognizes the image and sends it to Bango.net, which routes it to a specific URL.
The system could be used to purchase tickets from a concert poster, or to download a train timetable by scanning a barcode at a train station.
