US start-up Cellular 3G has announced a W-CDMA (UMTS) chip the size of a postage stamp. The company, formerly known as 3G.com, says its TopHat chip is the most power-efficient, high-bit-rate 3G chip on the market.
Cellular 3G says its chipset cuts power consumption by 90% compared to rival chipsets, and that it can provide near-LAN applications on handheld devices.
We set out in 1999 with the goal of building the most power-efficient baseband chip available, CEO Menachem Kenan told the press. In just three years, we’re realizing this goal.
