COMPANY PRESS RELEASE: Centrica and GWR Group plc has announced a major strategic three-year partnership, worth £7 million, to provide traffic and travel news services to 53 GWR stations and associate stations.
The deal sets new standards within the UK radio industry between GWR, the UK’s biggest independent radio network, and Centrica, one of the UK’s biggest radio media spenders, and parent company of the AA.
From 1 December 2002 AA Roadwatch is to introduce three aircraft for travel reporting and deliver traffic and travel news through on-air bulletins and a studio-based intranet service. GWR and AA Roadwatch will also be working together to develop new prototype services for digital radio.
The deal includes making AA traffic information available to the online presence of the GWR stations through www.koko.com, the group website which represents each station at a local level.
Roger Wood, Managing Director of the AA says: The deal with GWR adds significant scale to our AA Roadwatch operation. By working in partnership with the radio industry we aim to create better results from our marketing investment and a stronger traffic and travel news business.
Our media spending plan will therefore be heavily influenced by the travel news partnerships we form.
Patrick Taylor, Chief Executive of GWR Group, says: High quality traffic and travel information is a vital ingredient for our listeners and we have no doubt that AA Roadwatch will exceed the expectations of our audience.
We are pleased to be able to broaden this arrangement to express a longer-term commitment from both ourselves and Centrica, which in the current uncertain climate represents confidence on the part of both organisations.
