Scalable offering for high-speed, multimedia rich, next generation IP-based networks
China Unicom has selected Ericsson to deploy gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) in more than ten provinces across China.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will supply its EDA 1500 GPON system to China Unicom, which will enable China Unicom to offer the high speed and capacity broadband access to its users.
The GPON infrastructure and smart management system will also enable China Unicom to roll out fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-building across the country and at a lower cost.
The new services will allow China Unicom to meet the growing demand of data traffic and triple play services among Chinese consumers.
Ericsson said that the EDA broadband access equipment portfolio provides simple, and scalable offerings for high-speed, multimedia rich, next generation IP-based networks.
Ericsson China and North East Asia region head Mats Olsson said the new path China Unicom has taken reaffirms the potential of GPON in China and around the world.
"Ericsson is one of the few qualified GPON vendors in China, and we are proud to be powering China Unicom in its mission to stay ahead of the competitive broadband market with our industry leading offering," Olsson said.
