Cisco Systems Inc [CSCO] is said to be on the verge of announcing its strategy in the clientless virtual private network space, making the networking giant one of the final enterprise security systems vendors to show its hand.
Such systems use the SSL encryption features in web browsers to secure VPN traffic for common applications, meaning an IPSec VPN client is not required. They are most often used by remote workers, rather than as a replacement for site-to-site VPNs.
Other major firewall/VPN players have SSL VPN strategies in place – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd [CHKP] seems to be building its in-house, while NetScreen Technologies Inc [NSCN] and Symantec Corp [SYMC] have both made acquisitions.
