COMAPNY PRESS RELEASE: Corning Incorporated and Local 1000 of the American Flint Glass Workers Union (AFGWU) has announced that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new, four-year contract. The pact, which includes substantial wage increases, insurance and pension improvements, is subject to ratification by Local 1000 members.
Union employees will have the opportunity to vote on the new agreement from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at their respective work locations or at the Local 1000 union hall in Corning, N.Y.
Contract summaries were mailed to Local 1000 members on Saturday, Jan. 12. Contract information meetings will be held this week in Corning area plants. Information meetings will also be held in the Local 1000 union hall at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16.
The present three-year contract expires on Jan. 20, 2002. It covers approximately 1,700 Corning Incorporated production and maintenance employees at the company’s seven facilities in Big Flats, Corning and Erwin, N.Y. The new contract, as well as the current one, does not include union workers at Erwin Park Photonics, which is covered under a separate four-year agreement ratified a year ago.
The AFGWU has been affiliated with Corning employees since Oct. 5, 1943, and the first contract between Local 1000 of the AFGWU and Corning Incorporated was signed on Jan. 20, 1944.
