Utilities can gain enhanced visibility and control of the network
Technology-enabled business offerings and services provider CSC is collaborating with wireless network and performance management software provider Proximetry to leverage its AirSync platform as the foundation of a first-of-its-kind smart grid network management cloud service.
For utility operators wanting to actively and efficiently manage their smart grid communication networks, CSC’s AirSync Cloud offering provides network management to multi-vendor, multi-radio public and private networks.
Proximetry’s AirSync software is a Smart Gproactivelyrid Network Management System (SGNMS) that provides device configuration and management, software management, QoS and Traffic Shaping, network monitoring and feedback and network topology visualisation for managed devices.
CSC’s AirSync Cloud offering supports rapid deployment and scaling of the application, which facilitates management and monitoring across a comprehensive range of communication endpoint devices, applications and communications protocols.
By combining Proximetry’s AirSync capability with CSC’s cloud services and utilities industry expertise, the companies are helping utilities to establish an effective, unified platform for smart grid communications network management. And with CSC’s AirSync Cloud offering capability, utilities do not need to invest in data centre hardware and infrastructure.
With the new offering utilities can gain enhanced visibility and control of the network; improved and expanded customer service; greater financial efficiency and budgeting reliability; increased grid availability, resiliency and security; better monitoring and measurement; and a foundation to support future smart grid technologies, using standards-based communications and a scalable infrastructure.
CSC Chemical, Energy and Natural Resource Group president Robert Welch said realising the full potential of smart grid technology requires an adaptable enterprise architecture that can interactively collect, synthesise, report on and respond to vast amounts of data collected in real time.
"We’re offering the market a multi-vendor, multi-radio as a service solution that provides enhanced flexibility, improved performance and, in most cases, cost savings that can be passed on to the customer — a key competitive differentiator in these uncertain economic times," said Welch.
