Deutsche Telekom needs to raise up to E7 billion to satisfy its debt targets; as a result, it is considering selling or merging its US mobile unit VoiceStream.
The German company is in talks about the future of VoiceStream and both Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless are known to have been approached about a merger. However, Deutsche Telekom maintains that it is keeping its options open.
Deutsche Telekom is the world’s fourth largest telecom carrier. While its Q2 earnings were in line with expectations, the company had a disastrous Q1. It has a goal to reduce its debt to E50 billion by the end of 2003.
