Dell has announced the worldwide release its enhanced system management solution, the OpenManage 5.3, for controlling data centers and virtual environments.
According to the company, OpenManage 5.3 reduces the number of tools necessary for Dell server deployments and updates from three to one, via Dell Systems Build and Update Utility 1.0. The power monitoring and alert capabilities along with OpenManage Server Administrator and IT Assistant tools provide power usage information for IT managers to plan server utilization and reduce overall energy consumption.
With standard IT management functionality provided free of charge, along with more efficient processes, reduced maintenance costs and deployment time, and significantly less complexity, we enable customers to spend less time just ‘keeping the lights on’ and maintaining systems so they can commit more time and resources on the innovation front, said Rick Becker, vice president solutions at Dell Product Group.
Other features include hard drive firmware update capability and common users interface (UI) and command line interface (CLI) across Dell Systems Build and Update Utility. The company claims that the new functionality of OpenManage offers more control over the level of updates.
The company also announced that it is continuing to expand its OpenManage Certified Partner Program for managing heterogeneous IT environments. Through this program, Dell provides partners with developer toolkits for embedding OpenManage components into their systems management applications. The company then certifies this functionality, assuring customers that a partner’s implementation meets Dell standards.
