PC manufacturer Dell is rumoured to be considering a move into the printer market. Dell currently acts as a reseller of Lexmark, Epson and Hewlett-Packard brand printers.
It has been suggested that in order to enter the printer market, Dell would either seek to acquire a printer manufacturer or launch its own line of printers. Other options include the launch of Dell branded printers produced in conjunction with another printer manufacturer.
Dell has recently started to expand its product range with the introduction of its own networking switches, digital projectors and data storage machines. A move into the printer market could be seen as an extension to Dell’s current product range extension strategy.
There has been no official comment from Dell’s senior executives regarding any future moves into new markets.
