UK mobile operator One2One is planning to close 30 retail outlets as it changes its name to T-Mobile. The Deutsche Telekom unit is to reduce the number of outlets from 138 to 108.
T-Mobile’s move could result in as many as 100 job losses, in addition to the 900 redundancies announced last year. The decision signals a turn around in its retail strategy. Previously, the company was planning to see 50 new T-mobile outlets opening in 2002.
The re-branding of One2One as T-Mobile is initially planned for April 18. Deutsche Telekom is planning to float T-Mobile at some point in the next couple of years.
