Hannah Leonard, of Maddox Events, introduces the UK’s first conference dedicated to diversity in tech.
I am thrilled to be launching the UK’s first conference dedicated to increasing diversity and equal opportunity within the tech sector! After the success of Europe’s largest Women in Technology conference, this is the next step in our push for progress.
Diversity in Technology 2017, being held on 15 June, goes beyond the issues of gender. It is the first UK conference to have a holistic discussion about how we can increase diversity and equal opportunity in the fastest growing sector of our economy.
Plus, with uncertainty on the horizon, it is vital to be aware of the current economic and political situation and the impact change could have on the tech sector. We will analyse the opportunities available so you can create a strategy to future proof your company.
What to expect
The conference will dive into the fundamentals of attracting, hiring, developing and retaining diverse talent. Our speakers will talk candidly about their own challenges, failures and successes, so we can accelerate our progression towards adopting the best strategies and technologies.
We’ll hear from Microsoft’s Global Director of Diversity and Inclusion on the impact a diverse workforce can have on products, as well as the importance of inclusive design.
I am also pleased to say that IBM’s CTO is taking to the stage with a case study on his frustration with the results of their current Diversity and Inclusion programmes and the challenges he faces when trying to improve diversity in their workforce.
The event will be chaired by David McQueen and Rashada Harry. David is well known as the resident pitch coach for Sir Richard Branson’s VOOM competition. More recently he became a founder member of UKBlackTech, an organisation advocating for more talent from the BAME community into the tech industry. Rashada is a co-founder of the award-winning Your Future, Your Ambition (YFYA) which has connected over 3,000 students with corporate organisations to bridge the diversity gap.
