NTT DoCoMo has attracted fewer new mobile phone users in May than its Japanese rivals. DoCoMo, which is the largest mobile operator in Japan, added 139,000 subscribers in May.
KDDI, Japan’s number two operator, gained a further 143,00 new subscribers, with much of this being attributed to its recently launched high-speed mobile Internet service. J-Phone added 140,200 new users in May, 1,200 more than DoCoMo.
However, DoCoMo still commands nearly 60% of Japan’s mobile phone market, which is worth $70 billion.
