Merck KGaA is miffed with the “apparent takeover” of its account by American Merck & Co
German drug manufacturer Merck KGaA has initiated legal proceedings against Facebook for the "apparent takeover" of the account by the American drug maker Merck & Co.
Merck KGaA spokesperson told BBC News that it took legal action versus Facebook to ask for information as to why a website it thought it owned isn’t its anymore.
Merck KGaA said it requires "pre-action disclosure from Facebook to determine the nature of the misconduct, to frame the pleadings, and to identify the proper defendants."
Merck KGaA, in the filing, said because Facebook is an important marketing device, the page is of great value, and its misappropriation is causing harm to the company.
According to Merck KGaA website, Merck & Co. was formed in 1891, but became an independent American entity after World War I.
