Nokia has won a contract with Germany’s E-Plus to be the exclusive vendor for its 3G core network and as a major supplier of its radio-access network. Nokia will also provide its Network Deployment Package, which delivers implementation and project management, and the Nokia KeyCare Package, which maintains network competitiveness, as part of the $131 million contract.
Nokia, which has announced lower than expected results, will begin delivering the equipment immediately. This includes the entire core network as well as a significant part of the base stations for E-Plus’ 3G service.
Nokia has provided all of the GSM core network and most of the GSM radio network for E-Plus since 1993. Its GPRS network has also been supplied by Nokia.
