Ecuador’s telecoms regulator Conatel, has received interest in its forthcoming auction of three wireless bands from some of the world’s major telecom forces, including AT&T, Bell Canada and Telmex.
The bidding process for the Ecuadorian bands is set to start later this month, concluding in April.
According to a statement from Conatel, For this service, companies such as AT&T, Peru’s Telefonica, Telmex, Bell Canada, Entel SA and Ecuador Telecom have shown a formal interest.
At present the Central American country’s telecommunications networks are still largely state run. However, the government has long planned to open up the sector to competition for the benefit of the country’s mobile users.
