Storage giant EMC Corp [EMC] is planning to spend $100 million in India over the next five years, increasing its sales into the subcontinent and expanding software development and support at its offices in Bangalore.
Although it opened a subsidiary company in India in 2000, it was not until the beginning of this year that it opened its Bangalore development center, which currently is involved primarily in what EMC said was sustaining engineering, or development of existing products already on the market.
The amount of development of new software may increase as EMC increases its investment in India. Last year it spent $782 million on research and development.
EMC’s foothold in India and access to lower development costs was one of the advantages that has driven its imminent merger with Documentum Corp [DCTM].
