Cisco, Aruba, HP, Motorola Solutions and Ruckus Wireless top five vendors
Worldwide enterprise wireless local area network (WLAN) segment recorded a growth of 27.2% in the first quarter of 2012 (1Q12) over the first quarter of 2011, according to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Consumer and enterprise wireless local area network (WLAN) revenue grew 13.9% year-over-year in the Q1 of 2012, while it decelined 2.9% in quarter over quarter period due to the seasonally weak first quarter.
IDC Enterprise Communications Infrastructure director Rohit Mehra said the momentum behind bring your own device (BYOD) in the enterprise continues unabated, and is the single largest factor driving enterprise mobility and WLAN market growth.
"Along with the increasing use of Wi-Fi by service providers to offload cellular data traffic, current market drivers in key verticals will ensure the market for enterprise-class WLAN devices and solutions will see continued traction, and that the market is expected to stay vibrant for the foreseeable future."
IDC Worldwide Networking Trackers Group senior research analyst Petr Jirovsky said:"The positive results in the enterprise WLAN market over the last several quarters, which includes several established and emerging vendors, indicates that WLAN investments remain high on the priority list of many CIOs."
The size of the enterprise WLAN market grew by 73.8% in the Latin America, the fastest, while the 19.7% growth in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the 16.4% increase in Asia/Pacific were below the overall market this quarter.
Further, Cisco, Aruba, HP, Motorola Solutions and Ruckus Wireless are the top 5 firms in the worldwide enterprise WLAN market in the quarter.
Cisco’s global enterprise WLAN revenue was up by 27% to $414m in the quarter, with nearly half of the business accounted by the North American market.
Aruba, reported a growth of 42.8% in 1Q12 over the last quarter, and now holds 11.6% of the enterprise WLAN market.
HP’s WLAN revenue grew 10% while Ruckus outperformed in 1Q12 posting a market leading 183% revenue growth, driven by service provider and enterprise sales.
