Ericsson has entered into a worldwide patent license agreement with Research In Motion (RIM). The deal will give RIM access to the most extensive patent portfolio in the mobile phone industry.
Ericsson will provide RIM with a non-exclusive license covering Ericsson’s patents for GSM, GPRS, EDGE and CDMA2000 mobile telephony standards. RIM will use the license and Nokia’s mobile technology to develop, manufacture and sell products in the global wireless technology markets.
Research In Motion, which developed the BlackBerry wireless solution, will provide Ericsson with royalty payments and a reciprocal license in return.
