Ericsson has won a contract with Chinese mobile phone manufacturer TCL Mobile Communications to supply GPRS mobile handset platforms. The deal will enable TCL to build GPRS handsets with Ericsson components under its own brand name.
The deal continues a trend in the mobile industry that is seeing a large number of manufacturers making phones using components supplied from a small number of specialized companies.
China’s huge market offers great potential for mobile companies. It already has the world’s largest user base of mobile phones.
