Collaboration between government and industry is important, says social networking site
Social networking site Facebook has said that it aims to use the social interaction on the site to weed out harmful sites.
"Safety has always been a social experience: as friends and family, we look out for each other and pass along advice to help each other stay safe," Facebook director of engineering Arturo Bejar said.
"Safety on Facebook works the same way. By keeping each other informed, people make Facebook a more trusted environment."
The company had recently said that it is currently facing criticism from the US government over how the company treats user data privacy.
Cyber security education and collaboration between government and industry are key for future consumer Internet safety said Facebook.
"Dialogue between the companies that make the products and the government, like this conversation, are still going to be critical," Facebook Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan said about its security conference.
"We’re going to be making crazy products in 10 years and you guys are going to have the responsibility for protecting people using those products."
He added, "Making the Internet safer and more secure requires vigilance and knowledge of how to protect ourselves."
"With cyber attacks on the rise, practicing safe online behaviors is more important than ever."
