Bouygues Telecom is the sole bidder in the latest 3G license auction in France. The French telecoms regulator has confirmed that it has just one bidder for the two remaining licenses. The company did not bid in the initial auction, claiming that the costs were too high.
Difficult market conditions have since forced the regulator to lower the initial cost and extend the duration of the license. The same changes have been granted to both Orange and SFR who won licenses in the first auction.
The regulator will study Bouygues’ application before it decides whether it is successful. However, there is still one 3G license remaining; so far, it is unclear what will happen to it.
