Smart card company Gemplus is to launch a top-up system for prepay mobile phones, using iPIN. The system, called GeM-Reloaded, will enable users to top-up their prepay accounts at any time or place.
The system is able to alert users when their account balances fall below a preset level. The user can then choose from a range of different credit or bank accounts to replenish their account, or that of another individual.
The prepay system requires the SIM card to be kept in the phone. This allows operators to target offers, incentives and new services to these customers according to their market segment.
