The Jamboard offers a competetive spec and set of capabilities, for a significantly lower price than the competetion
A snip at $4,999, Google has announced that its Jamboard interactive whiteboard will go on sale in May.
First announced in 2016, the 55-inch Jamboard is proof of Google’s intention to be a key player in the interactive and mobile workplace, giving workers greater ability to interact and participate in events and meetings using their mobile devices.
The Jamboard incorporates Google G Suite software, which allows users to integrate items that have been stored in Drive, such as Sheets, Slides, Docs, and photos.
The Jamboard also offers benefits such as Google search, Cast capabilities and Hangouts.
Other details of the spec include handwriting shape recognition, 16 simultaneous touch points, and a 120Hz scan rate. The Jamboard also has built in tilt support and microphones, along with down-firing speakers.
The closest competitor to the Jamboard is the 55-inch Microsoft Surface Hub that was launched in March 2016. This year old rival has been undercut in price significantly by the Jamboard, as the Microsoft Surface Hub starts at $9,000.
The 84-inch version of the Microsoft Surface Hub is $21,999, another factor that could make Google’s Jamboard a more viable, practical option for business use.
On top of the Jamboard starting price, there will be a management fee of $600 per year, while two stylus pens, an eraser and a wall mount are included under the $5000 price.
