To take on Amazon and Apple in online music field
Google may soon launch a new online music service according to reports.
The news comes after YouTube announced its movie rentals service.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter that the service could be launched this week. The new music service is believed to be similar to a similar service launched by Amazon recently.
Google does not have the approval of the four major recorded-music companies, but is likely to go ahead with the plan, according to the reports. The service may include cloud-based music offering and may be unveiled at Google’s I/O event.
The report said that users will not be allowed to download songs from the service. They can only listen to songs they have uploaded.
Google has not commented on the matter so far.
Apple is in talks with major record labels to secure licenses for its own music service.
