According to eMarketer, Google will hold a 15% market share for US display advertising revenues this year.
Emarketer estimates that Google will make over $2bn in US display ad revenues in 2012, an increase of $38.5% from $1.67bn in 2011.
Facebook is predicted to trail behind the search engine giant, earning $2.16bn in ad revenues this year, up 24% from the year before.
Google’s lead comes after Facebook’s ad revenues did not meet expectations set earlier this year. eMarketer had originally predicted that Google would fall behind Facebook for 2012.
Yahoo, once the long time leader in US display ad revenues is expected to see its share of the market continue to fall.
Google and Facebook combined are estimated to represent less than 30% of the market by the end of 2012, with predictions it will climb to 37% by 2013.
Yahoo is expected to represent 9% of the market this year with Microsoft and AOL following behind with less than 5% each.
eMarketer estimates that Yahoo, AOL and Microsoft will continue to see their market share decrease as Google and Facebook continue to expand.
The US display ad market is expected to grow nearly 21.5% to nearly $15bn, up from £12.33bn in 2011.
