H3G has announced that it expects to launch UMTS 3G mobile services in 50 Italian cities by Christmas. The Hutchinson Whampoa subsidiary expects around 5,000-10,000 customers to use its service via a 3G phone.
Christmas could be the ideal time to launch a 3G network, giving customers access to advanced services – such as the possibility of watching the goals from football matches on their handset.
The operator aims to have a million Italian customers by the end of 2003. It expects to breakeven at the EBITDA level in 2006 and at the pretax level in 2007.
