Hutchinson Whampoa has boosted its early user targets for the Italian and UK 3G markets, according to a research note in a report by Credit Lyonnaise Securities Asia. The reports says that the Hong Kong company expects to attract 1.5 million 3G subscribes in the UK and Italy by the end of 2003.
In March, the company’s goal was to have a million users in each market by 2003. Hutchinson is expecting to earn an average of GBP50-60 in monthly revenues per user when its 3G services are launched. However, no information on the pricing of its European service has been released.
Hutchinson remains confident that it will have 3G handsets available in time for the service’s launch. It has a contract with NEC and Motorola to provide 1 million handsets.
