New entrant European mobile operator Hutchison 3G has hired technology group CMG to provide it with messaging software. CMG’s software will allow Hutchison subscribers to send and receive MMS (multimedia messaging services) messages, including pictures, sounds and video clips.
Hutchison will use the Anglo-Dutch firm’s software everywhere it has a 3G license – Australia, Hong Kong, Italy, Sweden and the UK – in a deal that will initially run for five years.
Alongside archrival Logica, CMG has been one of the major players in providing SMS services for 2G networks. Some had feared that the company would lose out to network equipment manufacturers, who are seeking to move into this lucrative territory.
