French publisher Infogrames has secured the exclusive videogame rights to Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the long-awaited next chapter in the Terminator series of action films, and expects to release the first T3 game in 2003, coinciding with the release of the film next summer.
The deal with C-2 Pictures and Intermedia which also includes an exclusive first option on the rights for any Terminator 4 film strengthens Infogrames’ Hollywood licences stable, which already includes the rights to the original Terminator films.
The first title to be based on the hugely popular action films, which helped to propel Arnold Schwarznegger to stardom and remain the Austrian Oak’s best-known movies, will be released later this year. Called Terminator: Dawn of Fate, it is based on the original film, The Terminator, and will appear on PS2 and Xbox.
There’s no bigger action hero than The Terminator and our games will live up to the legend, according to Infogrames chairman and CEO Bruno Bonnell. Video games and the motion pictures, the most popular forms of entertainment worldwide, are more closely connected than ever before and we are thrilled to be adding this enormously successful franchise to our growing Hollywood line up.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is scheduled for a summer 2003 release in cinemas, following a lengthy and troubled path to the green-lighting of the film. Schwarznegger will return as the Terminator, but James Cameron will not be directing and Linda Hamilton has also declined to reprise her role as Sarah Connor.
