Italy’s Communications Minister, Maurizio Gasparri, has confirmed that Italy is to extend its 3G licenses by five years to twenty. However, the Minister said there were no plans to change the prices of the licenses.
The existing GSM and landline licenses will also extended by five years.
We want to guarantee the development of this market and ensure it has a strong future, said Mr Gasparri.
This move by the Italians reflects the current softness of the telecommunications market and the country’s desire to ensure as smooth a transition as possible to 3G.
