Vodafone’s Japanese unit J-Phone is offering 1,000 customers the opportunity to trial its 3G network, which provides faster wireless Internet services. The trials will start in the Tokyo area from June 30.
However, customers signing up for the trials will not have access to the full range of services. Instead, they will be limited to regular call services, with no wireless web access.
Japan’s second largest mobile operator has postponed the start of its 3G network twice. It has had problems getting the network – and particularly the handsets – ready.
