To have production, R&D and marketing capabilities
A ceremony marking the beginning of Lenovo’s new operation center was held in Chengdu, southwestern China.
The Chinese PC maker had signed an agreement with the municipal government of Chengdu on 29 October 2010 to build an industrial base that included production, marketing and R&D centers.
The project, with designed annual production capacity of ten million PCs, is slated to start production in late 2011 according to the agreement.
The R&D center will involve about 1,000 persons and Lenovo also plans to set up a commercial complex and regional settlement center which will cover the markets of western China, Central and South of Asia, and even Europe.
Lenovo Group senior vice-president Qiao Song said to accelerate the construction of the Lenovo (West China) Operation Center means a lot to carrying out Lenovo’s global strategy and enhancing its leading status both at home and abroad.
He said the operation center will be equipped with the most advanced information systems and automation facilities to ensure the highest operational efficiency.
He added, "Chengdu will be Lenovo’s classic work."
