To launch tablet computer by end of current quarter
Lenovo will focus on innovation of its tablet computer LePad and smartphone LePhone as these devices would dominate the future market, Lenovo chairman Liu Chuanzhi said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"Anyone who loses this battle will be phased out from the history of this industry", Chuanzhi added while saying that the company has started selling LePhone, the iPhone competitor in China, since May.
The company will launch the iPad rival tablet computer by the end of the current quarter, he added.
The Chinese electronics maker has projected sales of more than one million units in 12 months for its Android smartphone LePhone.
Currently, Apple iPhone is the best-selling smartphone in China with first-half shipments of more than 900,000 last year, according to report by market consultant BDA China.
Although the iPad maker is garnering a chunk of the Chinese tablet computers market, it still is not leading the competition yet, Chuanzhi said.
"History has proved that Lenovo is good at catching up with the market’s leaders", he added.
Lenovo’s advantage is that it knows the Chinese market better, the chairman added.
The company also announced a partnership with Japanese telecom network NEC. As part of the deal, both companies will transfer their Japan PC assets to the venture named Lenovo NEC Holdings BV in which Lenovo will own a 51% stake.
