Microsoft India has launched Get Genuine solution for small and medium enterprises to legalize their pirated or unlicensed Windows XP Professional software.
The scheme is valid for a limited time in India, China, Brazil and Russia. Those who opt for this offer have to only provide their name and address to the reseller, who will then ship them the Certificate of Authentication and other license materials.
The users who opt for Get Genuine Solution (GGS) also have the option of enrolling into Microsoft’s Software Assurance program that allows them to upgrade path to Windows Vista and access important original software updates and downloads to valuable and premium add-ons.
This move is aimed at countering revenue loss due to piracy. In May 2007, Microsoft sent notices to 6 PC dealers in Gujarat, India on charges of selling pirated copies of Windows and imposed a fine of $39,368.
