Microsoft has announced it is to acquire Danish mid-market business applications vendor Navision for around $1.3 billion. Navision will become part of Microsoft’s Business Solutions division and significantly boost the company’s presence in the European business applications market.
Although there is some overlap between Microsoft Great Plains and Navision’s product lines, the geographic share is quite complementary. Over 85% of Navision’s business comes from Europe, and around 80% of Great Plains business is in the US.
Analysts believe the move is likely to hit UK-based mid market specialist Sage, and SAP, which recently acquired mid market player TopManage, the hardest.
