mmO2 and IBM have signed a 10-year IT agreement in the UK. The deal is worth up to $72 million in the first year for IBM’s UK division.
The agreement will focus on integrating mmO2’s existing systems during 2002. This will include its Genie Mobile service and process support for its customer care operations, e-payment, product and services development. Industry consultation and systems integration are also to be provided by IBM.
Few wireless IT vendors have the skills needed to meet the technological challenges that wireless e-business produces.
Frank Kern of IBM Global Services, Europe, Middle East and Africa says, IBM’s alliance with BTCellnet provides a robust infrastructure designed specifically to handle the radical changes that the wireless data services marketplace will present in coming years.
