Mobile subscribers could soon outnumber landline subscribers in Poland. The latest figures released by GUS, the Polish Central Statistics Office, forecast that mobiles will overtake landline subscribers in June 2002.
The forecast assumes that the growth in mobile subscriber number continues at the same rate as in recent months. It also requires that Poland’s fixed line operator, TPSA, does not offer dramatic initiatives in an attempt to reverse falling fixed line subscriptions.
Poland has seen a declining trend in its fixed line subscribers with numbers falling by 500,000 in the last year. Subscriber numbers are currently around the 10.5 million mark, while the number of mobile subscribers stands at 10 million.
