Data communication and telecom equipment provider Motorola Solutions is reportedly seeking a buyer, reported Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter.
Motorola Solutions was created from the spinoff of Motorola Mobility, which was later purchased by Google for $12.4bn and later sold to Lenovo.
Motorola Solutions made products including Walkie-talkie and radio systems and provides technology services to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Prince George’s County in Maryland.
According to reports, the company has been planning the sale for several months and buyers could include private-equity firms.
Potential buyers have been named as Honeywell, General Dynamics, or Raytheon, which may aim to generate more business from governments by buying Motorola Solutions.
Bloomberg cited Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang as saying: "There should be many people who are willing to buy Motorola Solutions at a reasonable price for its special communications technology and existing customer base."
"Motorola’s intellectual property should be valuable and attractive to some communication equipment makers."
