MTS Ukraine, a telecommunications services provider, has launched a commercial wireless broadband network using third-generation CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A equipment supplied by Alcatel-Lucent.
The new network, deployed in the 450MHz spectrum band, provides MTS Ukraine’s subscribers in major Ukrainian cities with a wide variety of 3G mobile data services, such as enhanced multimedia messaging, and audio and video streaming.
For this project, Alcatel-Lucent supplied its CDMA Modular Cell 4.0 compact base stations for the 450MHz spectrum band, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Radio Network Controllers (RNC), a base station operation controller and a network element management system, as well as packet core network equipment.
Pavel Pavlovsky, general director of MTS Ukraine, said: Project management support provided by Alcatel-Lucent has enabled us to launch our network to satisfy growing demand for data services in the Ukrainian market. We plan to expand our network coverage and will soon be providing wireless internet access in all of the largest Ukrainian cities.
