Canadian publisher and philanthropist Louise MacBain has launched a new social networking site for artists to chat, blog and even showcase their work.
The website ‘www.myartinfo.com’ reflects the growing influence of online medium for showcasing and selling art. The site already displays approximately 5,000 art works and is believed to have attracted over 800 users around the world in its first few days.
Ms MacBain’s company LTB Media has also re-launched ‘www.artinfo.com’ an online guide to art and culture, and a new art sales index to enable users to access auction prices and other records for more than 200,000 artists.
The idea is that it becomes a global platform for people to go and show their art, said Ms MacBain. With myartinfo people can post for free their art not only visual art, but performing arts, film, poetry, sculpture, fashion, architecture and design.
A similar website was launched last year by the British collector Charles Saatchi for art students ‘www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/stuart’. The website sold art and offered online networking. In May 2007, Museka!, a media entertainment company and owner of a website offering free service to Indie Musicians, launched a new social networking site, IndieBuddies.com, for Indian artists. The site offers networking opportunities to artists such as independent musicians, filmmakers, photographers and painters.
