Foxconn to increase iPad 2 production by second half of 2011
Apple is likely to commence production of the next version of the iPad next month and that of the fifth generation iPhone in May.
According to a report in China’s Commercial Times, Chinese electronics components manufacturer Foxconn and Taiwanese product developer Pegatron will continue to be involved in the manufacturing of the devices respectively.
Foxconn is also said to be conducting a pilot iPad 2 production run in February with plans of increasing the production run by the second half of the year, the report added.
The iPad 2 is likely to be slimmer and lighter than the current model with improvements in the front and rear cameras, built-in speakers and SD (secure digital) slot.
The iPhone 5 is considered to be the first Apple iPhone to use a new dual mode chipset, instead of the Infineon-sourced baseband chipset that the smartphone uses currently.
The iPhone 5’s Qualcomm chipset is expected to support both GSM and CDMA for improved international roaming.
