Nintendo has countered Microsoft’s European Xbox price cut by lowering the RRP of its yet to be released Gamecube to E199 (£129). The console is due to be launched across Europe on May 3.
Europe is a very important market for Nintendo and we are committed to making it a success, says Nintendo Europe’s Managing Director David Gosen. This is a very strong offer for consumers and one that we believe will ensure Nintendo’s success across Europe.
Sony is expected to fire the next shot in the console price war by reducing the cost of its market leading PS2. The PS2 currently retains at £199 in the UK, and is looking overpriced as it the least powerful of the three consoles, and unlike the Xbox, which has a built-in hard drive, requires users to invest a further £27 for a memory card if they want to save games.
