Nokia, the Finnish telecoms giant, has won a contract with Bermudan mobile network BTC Mobility. The company, one of the largest suppliers of GSM network equipment, will build BTC a full GSM/GPRS network.
BTC Mobility currently uses the TDMA standard, which is similar to GSM but technologically inferior. GSM/GPRS is an obvious upgrade path: BTC is following the example of US TDMA operators such as AT&T Wireless.
The agreement includes core and radio-access network equipment such as switching equipment, base stations, and base station controllers, as well as radio transmission, network management and GPRS packet-data solutions, Nokia told the press.
